A couple days ago, I received another complaint about something I posted here — this time, from an author for IPS News.
It was resolved easy enough – He wanted his article taken down because I didn’t have permission to use it in full – I did so without a problem, and wrote my own overview of the issue… But he and I also had a quick talk about this website –
Quite simply, he said it would be of more benefit to people if I spoke my own voice, rather than just (in my own words) acted like a photocopy machine, posting article after article.
Of course he’s right.
I’ve been wanting/planning to do this for quite a while now, but I haven’t posting anything of my own because I find that what I have to say often gets lost in how I say it.
I really don’t want to waste anyone’s time, or make people feel like they have to assemble a team to figure out what the heck I’m trying to say… So instead, I’ve continued to practice and practice and practice. But meanwhile, some authors are getting ticked.
And, over the last few weeks (possibly because stuff on this site is getting a pretty high ranking on the internet)
a bit of confusion is starting to rise, about the actual origins of what gets posted here. I’ve always done my best to make the source of an article clear, but even so, some people are thinking it’s unique to this site. This is something that needs to get resolved too.
Well, to address all this in one swoop, I’ve decided to act on the recommendation and start writing my own words.
For some things, I will continue to post it as I find/receive it, but the majority of posts from here-on will be in my own words.
I will be a lot of hard work, and it’s going to slightly reduce the number of articles that get posted here, but in the long run it’ll be worth it.
