As we enter our 10th anniversary year, it is an honour and a privilege as IC’s editor and publisher to announce IC Magazine’s new board of directors:
Vice-Chair
Tracy Barnett is a regular contributor at Huffington Post, founder of the Esperanza Project, and a former assistant professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism.
Secretary and Treasurer
Jay Taber is a contributing editor of Fourth World Journal, an associate scholar of the Center for World Indigenous Studies, and communications director at Public Good Project.
As the founder of IC, I am very proud to have a group of such distinguished professionals step forward to assist with the plans I presented during our highly successful fundraising campaign this past winter.
To recap, those plans include:
Once we secure sufficient revenue through grants and donations, we also intend to set up shop in Winnipeg, where we can house interns involved in copy-editing, fact-checking and special projects–such as media production workshops. But first, IC needs to give its new board time to discuss IC’s strategic plan, which will help guide the publication into the future. Their experience, and that of the advisors now being recruited, will ensure that IC will remain a quality magazine, unique in its value and service to the Indigenous Peoples Movement.

needed to understand what is truly at stake.
That is exactly why IC Magazine exists..
For more than 20 years, IC has reported on Indigenous struggles worldwide — consistently, independently, and without compromise.
We don’t follow news cycles; we trace patterns. We don’t sensationalize; we provide context.
And when the world looks away, we stay focused.
But this work is increasingly difficult to sustain.
We refuse to lock our reporting behind a paywall. We don’t sell access through subscriptions.
And we don’t answer to advertisers. IC Magazine survives solely because readers like you choose to
support independent Indigenous journalism.
