For the past 10 years, IC Magazine has stood at the forefront of the Indigenous Peoples movement. As a grassroots publication run by volunteers, IC strives to bring you authentic and uncompromising news coverage concerning the world’s Indigenous Peoples without the corrupting influence of corporate or government sponsors.

Over the years, IC has built up considerable momentum as an independent publication, carving out a unique journalistic niche that currently serves more than 30,000 readers. Picking up where other media disappears, IC has already published more than 3000 stories, produced two documentary films and published three printed magazines–all on a shoestring budget.

IC has also produced original research on strategies of ‘psychological warfare’ as deployed by industry and government and is an emerging thought leader that has penetrated the collective consciousness of many allied movements to this end. As a forum from which to seek and offer international solidarity for the world’s Indigenous Peoples, the mission of IC is crucial in its efforts to ensure access to information that empowers communities to take advantage of the global momentum happening at any given moment in their own quests for justice.

IC also continues to be a leading facilitator in expanding international awareness in regards to Indigenous Peoples and thereby informing the activity of activists and allies, as well as those seeking to be more responsible global citizens in this climate of consumerism, by persistently illuminating fraudulent and unlawful activity in the public and private sectors.

We are now in the process of taking this work even further by registering IC Magazine as a non-profit publication in Canada. This, in turn, will allow us to:

In addition to this, we are planning to

New contributing writers and filmmakers are already emerging from all corners of the globe, representing an ever expanding spectrum of unique viewpoints that you’re not likely to find anywhere else.

Any money contributed to IC will be utilized in the most impactful way possible. Gaining the trust of its audience, through nothing short of a decade of committed volunteer service, has honed the mission and intent behind IC in a manner that has evaded the climates of excess and waste that many otherwise well-meaning players in the nonprofit sector fall sway to. The lessons gathered in frugality, the nature of heartfelt service, and the now crystallized and uncompromising ethical standards, will always be a part of the organizational culture at the heart of IC.

We feel the long term impacts of IC are almost ‘too big to quantify’, if we may ironically appropriate a phrase from the finance sector. Even so, part of our continued growth will involve more formalized implementation of external, and internal, assessment and auditing strategies in order to showcase such matters in a less abstract way.

With your support, we aim to take full part in the movement. http://igg.me/at/long-live-ic/

Dear reader,

Across the world right now, Indigenous peoples are facing a renewed assault on their lands, rights, and ways of life. From extractive industries pushing deeper into ancestral territories, to governments rolling back hard-won protections, the threat is global—and it is growing.

What makes this moment especially dangerous is how little attention it receives.

Stories like this are disappearing in real time. Mainstream media barely covers it and the coverage is fragmented. The public is left without the context needed to understand what is truly at stake.

That is exactly why IC Magazine exists..

For more than 20 years, IC has reported on Indigenous struggles worldwide — consistently, independently, and without compromise. We don’t follow news cycles; we trace patterns. We don’t sensationalize; we provide context. And when the world looks away, we stay focused.

But this work is increasingly difficult to sustain.

We refuse to lock our reporting behind a paywall. We don’t sell access through subscriptions. And we don’t answer to advertisers. IC Magazine survives solely because readers like you choose to support independent Indigenous journalism.

Please donate today if you can. Every contribution helps us to continue this crucial work.

Thank you,

John Ahni Schertow
Founder and Editor in Chief
