A Compendium of Indigenous Defenders

Did you know there are over 5,000 Indigenous Peoples in the world?

Most of these distinct nations face massive daily challenges at the hands of governments, corporations, and non-profit organizations; but you wouldn't know it by looking at the news.

Displacement, the loss of access to natural resources and human rights abuses are a frequent occurrence--in point of fact, Indigenous Peoples are being dragged to extinction in many parts of the world.

However, Indigenous Peoples aren't accepting the "zero future" that is being handed to them. They are struggling to reclaim their lands, develop sustainable economies, protect their languages, identities and cultural heritage. With territories that cover over 20 percent of the earth's surface, they're also struggling to defend the world's biodiversity while striving to usher in a global climate of accountability between all nations and states.

Below, you will find the compendium of Indigenous struggles we have covered at IC Magazine over the past 21 years. There are more than 650 entries.
