The Makushi are an Indigenous nation residing primarily in southern Guyana, with communities extending into northern Brazil and parts of southern Venezuela. Traditionally semi-sedentary horticulturalists, they cultivate cassava and other staple crops while supplementing their diets with fishing and hunting. Makushi cosmology is closely tied to the environment, with oral histories and rituals emphasizing a reciprocal relationship with the land.
