After nearly 12 months of work, I’m happy to announce that our humble effort to ‘localize’ Intercontinental Cry is finally bearing fruit!
Thanks to WordPress, the good folks at Mayfirst.org, our new Spanish Editor and a solid group of volunteer Translators we are finally ready to launch the Spanish Edition of Intercontinental Cry!
We’re tentatively calling it IC Espanol.
The main objective of IC Espanol is, of course, to provide Spanish readers with the same news that our English readers have come to expect from us; what I consider to be essential news on the global indigenous movement.
At the moment, we have a total of six Spanish volunteers, so the amount of articles that will get translated will be somewhat limited; but as the months roll on and we find more volunteers to work with, that number will surely grow–especially if our Spanish Editor has anything to say about it
However, IC Espanol isn’t just for translations. With the way I’ve set things up (using something called WordPress Multisite) we also have the option of publishing articles in Spanish. And then, if we want, we can translate those articles to English—or German, French and Chinese once we have those editions online.
Wait, Chinese? You got it! IC Espanol is just the first of many additions to the IC World.
At first, we were just going to stick to French, Spanish, German and Italian as I indicated last year; but we’ve had several people express an interest in helping out with other editions in Chinese (Traditional), Portuguese and Esperanto. At some point, I’d love to get some Indigenous Language editions going too, but that might be a little more difficult.
For now, it’s all about IC Espanol!

We refuse to lock our reporting behind a paywall. We don’t sell access through subscriptions.
And we don’t answer to advertisers. IC Magazine survives solely because readers like you choose to
support independent Indigenous journalism.
