Idle No More is arguably the most important indigenous protest movement that Canada has seen in the last 40 years. The movement activated an entire generation of First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. It also gave them a way to participate in public and policy discourse, something that is crucial for the health of Canada’s democracy.
