WINNNIPEG, Man. (Sep. 1, 2015) – Intercontinental Cry today officially launched the People Land Truth Awards, a new annual awards program that recognizes excellence in the field of investigative journalism.
“We are very excited to honor and recognize those among us who’ve worked tirelessly to educate us and to keep us informed about some of the most pressing issues of our time,” said John Schertow, IC’s Editor in Chief.
“Journalists are the unsung heroes of the information age”, Schertow continued. “While many of us work in board rooms or in the comfort of our own homes, journalists are constantly heading out to the front lines of the world–risking incarceration, kidnapping, deportation, torture, even their lives–in order to tell us what’s happening around us. They are our eyes and ears. The People Land Truth Awards is our way of saying thanks for all the crucial work that journalists do; and especially journalists at IC, who do it free of charge.”
From now until Oct. 1, 2015, the public is encouraged to offer some thanks of their own by voting for their favorite articles in the #PLTAwards.
Once voting closes in four weeks, IC’s Editorial Board will begin to prepare the winning group of articles for the next issue of People Land Truth Magazine, published by Daykeeper Press. Each winning author will also receive a copy of all magazines that IC has published; and, their articles will be promoted on the website for one full year.
